Cubs Win Series – Celebrate with wine and cheese!

The holidays are a time for celebrating with wine and cheese.

Now that Halloween has come and gone, and the Chicago Cubs are World Series Champions, we can concentrate on the important last two months of the year:  otherwise known as the holiday season. It’s wine and cheese time.

Whether you find yourself hosting an election night party or relaxing after an exhausting day of shopping for gifts, you’ll want to have the best wine paired up with the right cheese. And that may require a little bit of ingenuity.

While there are no written rules to matching wines and cheese – it comes down to personal preference – there are some factors to consider that could impact your decision. The fragrance or taste of the wine will help determine whether a mild or strong cheese is best. The right wine will enhance the flavor of the cheese.

As conveyed by WineCoolerDirect’s Erin Doman: “Even though it is a centuries-old tradition, matching cheese and wine together can still be a challenging and intimidating task. If done correctly, a perfect match can be an exquisite experience.”

It may seem a bit daunting at first, but choosing a wine that pairs evenly with cheese can actually be quite fun. You’ll be an expert in no time.

In a recent column, Doman selects her favorite 18 pairings, which includes a Moscato paired with Muenster or Pepper Jack. “Both of these cheeses have spicy flavors and work best with sweet wine. Moscato is an off-dry and light-bodied white wine that is known for its orange blossom and lemon zest notes, as well as having aromatic flavors.”
